Apple shaker card using Santoro’s Kori Kumi range

Hi there crafters, today I’m sharing an apple shaker card I put together using the Santoro Kori Kumi range from Craft Consortium. I love the colourful wooden frames that come in the range and wanted to use the apple one to frame a shaker aperture. Shaker cards are really on trend at the moment and it’s easy to see why – they look impressive but they are actually easy to make! I will have a shaker card video tutorial showing the technique soon but in the meantime I’ll describe how I made it.

First I placed the wooden frame on the centre of the card and drew round the inside of the apple shape. I then cut out the shape to make an aperture in the card. To make a ‘window’ I cut out a piece of acetate (I am using an old pack of projector transparency sheets!) and stuck it to the back of the aperture (on the inside of the card).

The next step was to create a space for the shaker elements (sequins and buttons) to sit. Again on the inside of the card I placed a solid line of foam squares around the window, close to the edge of it but not so close that it can be seen through the aperture. You need to make sure there are no gaps between the foam squares or the sequins can escape!

Next I placed the sequins and buttons in the aperture, and sealed it by placing a square of red floral card on the back, which is held on by the foam squares.

I then decorated the front. I glued the apple frame over the aperture, added some die cut flowers and Kori Kumi decoupage elements, and then finished off with a stamped sentiment glued to a wooden banner. Let me know in the comments if you have had a go at any shaker cards :)
