English Garden Birdhouses

Hi everyone, this weekend I have been decorating little cardboard birdhouses using Docrafts Artiste acrylic paints and the beautiful English Garden papers from Craft Consortium.

English Garden Birdhouses by StickerKitten

Here’s the video of me painting them and making the paper roof for the pale pink one:

I like painting but I don’t like messing about too much, so if you’re short on time, here are my top tips for lazy painting:

1. Don’t bother with a palette, just stick the paint straight on to your project or brush.
2. Don’t bother washing the brushes in between colours (if you don’t mind them mixing a little!). You can see that the pink paint on my brush has mixed with the light grey to create a pretty pale pink shade.
3. Don’t bother peeling off labels – just paint over them.
4. Don’t bother painting any areas that are going to be covered by paper – like the roofs of the birdhouses – though you can use them for wiping off your brush a bit!

DO clean your paintbrush after you’ve finished your painting session. Lazy painters don’t want to have to clean their brushes before starting the next project!

To get the metallic effect I only applied a tiny amount of gold paint to the brush and swept it over the birdhouses allowing the brush to give it a scratchy, weathered effect.

The paint colours I’ve used are Dusty Rose, Sage, Light Grey and Metallic Titanium Gold.
