Vintage Butterfly Birdcage Card

Hi everyone! Just a quick post today to show off a bit of experimenting with vintage type effects on my new die cuts. I recently bought a Marianne birdcage die and a pretty Joy Crafts butterfly die and wanted to try them out on a card. Here it is! I hope you like it – I am quite pleased with it. I like vintage designs. ^_^

Vintage butterfly birdcage card

1. First I glued down one of the beautiful sheets of cardstock from my Prima Almanac stack to provide the background of the card. The paper stack is quite expensive for a 6×6 pad (around £7) but in this case it was a Christmas gift from my lovely sister and the papers are so beautiful! I do treasure them. I love pretty paper.

2. Next I cut a border piece from my Melissa Frances 5th Avenue paper pad to make the strip across the middle. I smudged over the top and round the edges with brown fluid chalk to make it look a bit more aged and less pastely.

3. I used my new dies in the Big Shot to cut the birdcage and butterflies from blue paper. I then used the same brown fluid chalk to go round the edges and over the top, and then I sort of smeared them with a gold ink pad so they look a bit vintage and gilded.

4. After glueing the die cuts on I added a sentiment from the Papermania Vintage Notes range to finish it off. I tried to ink it with gold again but as it’s linen paper it absorbed it and actually made it look a bit mouldy so I stopped haha.

I am going to enter this card in the Country View Crafts April challenge. The theme is butterflies! More info here.
