Using Apertures in CardmakingHello!
It’s Shabneez here and I’m very excited to share my first blog post for the StickerKitten Design Team. When I got my very generous DT package I spent a good week just looking at all the products. I couldn’t decide what to use so ended up using a mixture of all the elements from the Space set!
I absolutely love using apertures on my creations be they cards or scrapbook pages. I feel they’re a great way to draw the eye in to what you want showcased. In this post I decided to show a number of ways to use apertures.
My first card is the most simple and it shows how an aperture doesn’t have to be a full one. In this case, I’ve cut part of the circle away and matt and layered papers from the Celestial Paper pack with some foam tape to give it some dimension. I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment from the Celestial Stamp set and used my Chameleon pencils to shade the planet very lightly. I added some white Tonic Nuvo drops to finish.
For my second card I wanted to use the cute Space Dogs stamp set so I stamped and coloured the space dogs using my Chameleon pens and fussy cut them out. I decided on a slim line card using the Time for Tea Designs Scalloped Frame Die set to cut out the oval scalloped shaped apertures. I added paper from the Celestial Paper pad and stuck a couple of planets from the Celestial Ephemera pack – heat embossing a sentiment on one before adhering to the card. This is a good example of using more than one aperture on a card.
For my final card I used a Star nesting die set to cut out an aperture. I stuck it on to a sheet of the Celestial Paper Pad once I had heat embossed the sentiment in the centre. I heat embossed a couple of other sentiments and stuck them to the side before adding some elements from the Space Dogs Ephemera. To finish I added some metallic Tonic Nuvo Drops.
Apertures can be any shape and they don’t always have to be full apertures either. They’re a fun way of showcasing elements on a card be they sentiments or images.
See you again next month and until then Happy Crafting!
