Hi, It’s Anna posting today.

I adore using “shaker” on my makes, be they cards or cover of scrapbook album. In this post I decided to show a shaker card. I love making a friend feel special for the birthday with a handmade card uniquely crafted. I have some Shaker Card Tips for you today featuring the Space Dogs and Celestial collections!

If you’re new to this type of card…
Shaker cards are an interactive form of card that involves creating a window on the front of your card. Inside the window, between two tightly sealed layers, one of which is often transparent, sequins or other “shakerable” materials are inserted.
There are several methods.

The most popular technique:

  • Cut out a frame from cardstock using a die cutting machine and two different sized dies.
  • Glue an acetate sheet on the back of frame.
  • Apply the foam tape around the window shape. The foam tape creates a space where the sequins can move.
  • Add sequins and glue on the card.
  • Add sentiment and embellishments.

Or for example, you can use the technique that I used for my today card:

  • Cut out the window shape on the patterned paper to use on the front. The shape of the window is of your choice and is usually done with a die and die cutting machine. For example, in my shaker card, I made circle window.
  • Glue an acetate sheet on the back of the this piece.
  • Using two circle dies, cut out a frame from the foam adhesive sheet (or foam sheet).
  • Glue the adesive frame on the back of window. The foam creates a space where the sequins can move.
  • Add sequins.
  • Close with a background.
  • Add sentiment and embellishments. I used the Space Dogs and Celestial collections, so fun!
